The affects of the flooding crisis in Thames Valley meant that hundreds of property owners were evacuated from their homes, with water levels reaching their highest in 60 years with 1000 homes predicted to have been flooded. Windsor and Maidenhead are among the worst affected areas with the army and navy helping with sandbags in Thames Valley, Southcote near Reading and surrounding areas.
When such dramatic incidents occur evacuation is paramount for safety and well being purposes. Shelter accommodation is available in most instances to provide hot meals, spare clothing and somewhere to rest however, people living in flood risk areas with a possibility of being evacuated should prepare an emergency flood kit which includes warm, dry clothes, torch, first aid kit, mobile phone and charger and important personal documents. Train services can also be affected by the severe weather conditions making travelling almost impossible due to disruptions and delays.
The Environment Agency and Authorities continuously provide flood alerts and advise on possible affected areas including Thames Valley, The Thames, Oxford, Wytham, Shepperton, Surrey, Chertsey Middlesex.
